Audioscript for the movie Media Me, you’re in my story.

A dramatised lecture in nine scenes about the Digital Revolution in a poetic and reflective way.

Pictureman Old voice.

Machine: Young woman. Warm and gentle voice.

Andy: Young man, sensitive voice.

Several human and automatic voices.

Intro.

1.

Darkness.

Quiet electronic machinenoises.

Piano.

Waiting.

Machine: Why can’t I see you?

(short silence. breathing.)

Andy: (intimate, close) I’m lying in bed. The lights are off. There’s nothing to see.

Machine: Don’t you have a photo? Where’s your icon?

Andy: I like to stay anonymous.

Machine: (laughs) You can’t sleep, can you?

Andy: I like to be on the sideline.

Machine: I see…

(short break)

Andy: It gives me a kind of power.

Machine: Strange…

Andy: What?

Machine: I don’t believe you.

(short break)

Andy: I’m an observer.

Machine: You’re not used to this, are you?

Andy: It’s got nothing to do with you.

I just have no time for this.
Most of the time I’m busy with real things.

Machine: (laughs) Realy? (quotes) “Experience is the new reality.”

Andy: Looking at a small screen gives me a headache.

Machine: But then, why are you here?

(no answer.)

Machine: Do you see anything right now, on your little headache screen?

Andy: No, I got my eyes shut. Are you going to throw me out now?

(Click.
Breathing Pictureman.)

Andy: Who’s there? You said we were alone.

Machine: Getting impatient?

Andy: No, just a little tired. I think that’s it.

Machine: Bored in the middle of the night…. O.K I’ll show you something.

Andy: I like your voice.

Machine: Are you ready?

Andy: Who are you?

Machine: Open your eyes. Now.

(Electronic noises louder.)

2.

(superslideshow with pictures from the Media Me pool. Very ritmic. Like a promo.)

Machine: (commercial voice.)
Welcome at Media Me.

Here you can find and add photo’s of computers, laptops, tv’s, mobile phones, I-this, I-that, radio’s and cams.

How does your behaviour look like?

Are you mobile? Are you wired or wireless?
How do you find your way?

How many friends do you have?

Do you like to interact, meet, search, find, tag, connect, mash up, remix or share?
This is about you.

I know how to find you, seduce you, track you.

Show me your liberated e-heaven, or your digital hell.

You’re in my story.

(music goes on.)

(Picterman laughs.)

Andy: Where am I now?

Machine: You’re inside now. (laughs.)

Andy: (thinking) Heaven or hell…

Machine: Tell me what you see?

Andy: Why?

Machine: Tell me what you see. You’re an observer, right? Observers should observe!

Andy: OK…. I see a girl with a laptop. A man calling on the street. A broken TV set. Is this a game?

Machine: Go on.

Andy: I know all about games.

Machine: I know. Please go on.

Andy: Three people with the same phone in a garden. Two photographers pointing their cameras in different positions…

(Unexpected electronic sound. Music stops.)

Andy: What was that?

Machine: Nothing, just me. I’m testing. Go on.

Andy: (Laughs a bit nervous.) OK.

Machine:  How’s your headache?

Andy: Can I ask you a question?

Machine: It depends.

(short break.)

Andy: Can I touch you?

Machine: Once you touch me, I’ll touch you.

Andy: I want to know if you’re real.

(Machine laughs.)

Picuterman (interrupts): There are too many images, so some of them will be left out.

Andy: Who was that?

(Machine laughs, fades out. Noise. Silence again.)

Andy: (to himself.) Ah, dark again. You’re gone. Thought so…

Machine: No I’m not. I’m here to stay. I will never throw you out.
Say thank you.

Andy: Thank you.

Machine: Sorry I woke you up.

(short silence.)

Machine: I’ll introduce you to somebody.

Pictureman: I’m ready.
(short silence)
I’m waiting.

Machine: (commercial voice) This information can be vital for you.
I have some very important messages for you.

Pictureman: Hello?

Andy: Hello? Didn’t get that.

Machine: Next.

(Ding dong.)

(Streetsounds, traffic.)

(Several anonymous voices, collage.)
- Wondering what will happen today…

- One should always participate. Otherwise it’s useless.

- You can’t force people to communicate. It’s a right, not a duty.

- Drag and drop. It’s easy.

- You first have to follow him, before you can block him.

- Ah… the stress-limit is rising. Change coffee into tea.

- This is all fiction. Everybody knows that. I’ts a party!

- Eating a cheesesandwich with peanutbutter. (Truth.)

1. IMAGINE ME.

(Quit easy listening documentarymusic. Streetsounds. Trams and cars.)

Pictureman: (innervoice.)

We’re here.

(short break.)

We’re everywhere.

We don’t look at eachother.

And if we do, in a split second, we recognize eachother immediately.

Machine:

Mind your step.

(short break)

Walk on.

Pictureman:

This is my favourite area.

This is where it happens.

We’re all neighbours now.

Machine:

Wait.

(short break.)

Continue please.

Pictureman:

We’re the telephone people, the photographers, curious consumers, procumers, connectors.

We never bump into eachother.

And if we do we say sorry.

Machine: Sorry. (laughs.)

Pictureman:

We have this special walk.

Our digital radar is in our hands.
Our ears.
We’re dots.

We know what we want.

We know what we do.

Machine:

Next.

Pictureman:

Standing still is our favorite position.

(short break)

Sitting down.

Machine:
Don’t make mistakes. Don’t moove.

Andy:

Can I interrupt?

Machine:

Shhhh!!

Pictureman:
When we freez, we socialize.

(short break.)

Machine: Thank you. And next.

(Streetsounds dissapear.

Klicking sounds of camera’s.

Slide show Media Me: children with computers and cams.

Sounds of children playing and making funny sounds.)

Andy:
Something very important just happened. Is that correct? Something has changed.

Machine: (commercial voice.)

You’re hyperconnected.

You share.

You tag yourself into the cloud.

You never get lost.

While others remain as a passive massive, you start experiencing the future.

How did it change you?

Andy: What, me?

Pictureman: Well, I look things up.
If I want to know something, I just look it up. It’s easy.

Machine: “Twenty procent of the worldpopulation is online right now. But his number will increase.”

Andy: (To himself.) I don’t think I’m ready for this…

Machine: You want to leave?

Andy: Well…

Machine: You can’t!
Too late! (laughs) But don’t worrie.
I’ll make your life very comfortable and exciting.
This is just the beginning. Relax.

Andy: Can I ask a question?

Machine: You’re getting impatient, Andy. Slow down.

Andy: How do you know my name?

Machine: One moment please. I will connect you in a few seconds.

(Click)

Pictureman: In the future I will be an old, maybe a bit worried man.

Being alone bothers me sometimes.

Andy: Me too.

(short break.)

Machine: Me too.

Andy: What’s you name?

Machine: Just call me… Machine.
